Smoke
Creating Smoke.
STEP ONE: Open up a new canvas in Photoshop and paint it black. Then create a new layer on top of that by pressing the "new layer" button.
STEP TWO: Airbrush a white, fuzzy line the basic direction that you want your smoke to travel. Then use the wave filter on the line.

STEP THREE: Which is located under filter>distort>wave.
The preset options will work just fine. Make sure that the white line is on it's own layer. Fade that wave. Under Edit>Fade Wave, select it and move the opacity to about 50% or so.
STEP FOUR: Repeat step three, however, make your opacity about 42%. This will give a nice 3d look.
STEP FIVE: Repeat step three Again, but this time make your opacity about 23%. Repeat these steps if you wish to.

STEP SIX: Let's paint that smoke. Make a new layer and pick a fuzzy airbrush. Grab a nice deep color. I chose dark red. Then change your layers blending mode to softlight and paint that smoke.

FINISH: Try all kinds of blending modes and colors to achieve a infinite amount of options.
